HOMETOWN: Sioux City, IA
UNI DEGREE: Bachelor of Arts in Music, May 2008 EMAIL: WEBSITE:schoolofmusic.army.mil AND bands.army.mil CURRENT RESIDENCE: Uijeongbu, Republic of Korea OCCUPATION: U.S. Army Musician - playing for the 2nd Infantry Division in Uijeongbu, Republic of Korea GREATEST LIFE EXPERIENCE: Graduating basic training. A few people thrive in that kind of environment, but it was the most difficult thing I have ever accomplished. Some people say the three sweetest words in the English language are “I love you.” I say the three sweetest words are “Goodbye, drill sergeant” STRANGEST LIFE EXPERIENCE: I call it Noah Alvarado!!! GREATEST PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Anytime I get to work with someone at the forefront of music, provided they don’t turn out to be a disappointing jerk. Some of my favorite people I have gotten to work with are Phil Smith, Maria Schneider, Frank Mantooth, Ryan Kisor, and, of course, Dr. Grabowski! STRANGEST PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: When I went to see the Bad Plus in Minneapolis I was sitting at the bar before the show. The drummer for the Bad Plus, David King, sat down next to me. We talked some, and he told me I could call him “Heavy D.” I said, “Okay, Heavy D.” Immediately Mr. King said, “If you call me Heavy D. again, I am going to kill you.” I think he was joking UNI TRUMPET STUDIO MEMORIES: I remember a very tight-knit group of musicians with similar goals and interests. We definitely had many good times, enjoyed each other’s company (for the most part), and I think each of us even practiced once or twice. Thanks, everyone, for a very memorable collection of years! |
