Chad Boydston

HOMETOWN: Kansas City, MO

UNI DEGREE:  Bachelor of Arts in Music, May 1995

EMAIL:

CURRENT RESIDENCE: Kansas City, MO

OCCUPATION:  I suppose my title is "Musician" or perhaps "Professional Trumpet player", something like that!

GREATEST LIFE EXPERIENCE: Wow! This one is hard!  It would either be seeing the moonlight glowing on "Delicate Arch" in Arches National Park in Moab Utah, or getting to sit next to and play with Wynton Marsalis in New York

STRANGEST LIFE EXPERIENCE: This would probably be the 2 month U.S. tour I took with the Grand Marquis (the band I currently play most of my gigs with).  It was sponsored by Camel cigarettes and in spite of it costing them over 4 million dollars, it was the epitome of wierd.  There are too many stories to even begin. We will have to get together sometime and exchange stories.

GREATEST PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: When Buck O'Niel (famous Negro League Baseball player, coach, and jazz aficionado) came up after a jam session at the Blue Room and told me that I had what it took!

STRANGEST PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:  O.K. here comes one of the hundreds of stories from that tour I mentioned earlier. After having our tour bus pulled over for a drug sniffing dog to run through outside of Cleveland we were running late for our show in Cincinatti.  When we got there, we discovered the club called "Pipeline" was a gay bar. The servers wore T-bar underware and that was it!  Not to mention the 6' 8" 250 pound former NFL linebacker in high heels and a dress hitting on me all night. I needed a shower after that one!

Also: Rick Derringer of "Hang on Sloopy" fame!

UNI TRUMPET STUDIO MEMORIES: Well, for one thing I remember missing a lot of those 8:00 a.m. meetings due to my love of beer.  I also remember how many great trumpet players there were!  Everyone had serious talent!
