Most of the performances ended up on the cutting room floor; however, the experience of being in the company of great actors such as Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep was magnificent! During the months of preparation by the casting staff, they made themselves at home at the nightclub where I had the house band. Through them, Clint Eastwood heard about me and made a point to come to hear my group play when he arrived in Des Moines. The following week, I received an invitation to be in the movie. The cast and crew hung out with me quite a bit after that, frequenting the establishment at which I played. I got to become "chums" with Ms. Streep! STRANGEST PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: I was a guest artist for the Iowa State University Jazz Band. The organist's instrument was not working properly, and we had to use a student bassist to compensate for the loss of the organ and let's just say....It wasn't the same.
