UNI DEGREE: Bachelor of Music in Education, December 2002 ADDITIONAL DEGREES: Master of Arts in Music Education, University of Iowa, August 2008 EMAIL: CURRENT RESIDENCE: Cedar Rapids, Iowa OCCUPATION: 5-8th Grade Orchestra Director at Linn-Mar Schools GREATEST LIFE EXPERIENCE: It's nothing extravagant, simply laying on the beach of Lake Michigan at night watching shooting stars, and talking and laughing among my best friends STRANGEST LIFE EXPERIENCE: Going on a ghost walk tour in Virginia Beach. It was after dark and the tour guide was wearing a tux and a top hat. He encouraged us to take pictures of the old Coast Guard Station and I caught several orbs on my camera GREATEST PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Conducting on the Paramount Theater stage in 2007 and having my name on the marquee! STRANGEST PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: One summer I had the dorkiest student I will EVER teach burst out laughing uncontrollably, and when he finally managed to take a breath was able to say "Miss Colton! Miss Colton! I farted to the beat!" UNI TRUMPET STUDIO MEMORIES: Dr. Grabowski did an experiment one day in trumpet class, he had all of our trumpets up front in a line mixed up and tried all of them. We listened to his sound and technique on each and all voted on the best one and mine won!! I also remember my stomach making a really strange gurgling noise every time I took one of the famous Grabowski breaths in my trumpet lessons, I don't think he knew why I kept laughing! ANYTHING ELSE?: I have such great memories of being a trumpet major at UNI and had my best musical experiences there. I also met my best friends there! S'go cats! |
