STRANGEST LIFE EXPERIENCE: A high school friend of mine went into Army Intelligence. As part of his background check I was interviewed about him by a CIA agent with a scar on his face and a volatile attitude about Communism. A few years after the interview, I saw that same agent in Russell Hall watching people. (Twilight Zone theme here!)
GREATEST PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: My students recently received the Critic's Choice Award in Choral Reading at the Iowa High School Speech Association's Large Group All-State Festival. It was the highest honor they could achieve.
STRANGEST PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: I used to keep cockatiels in my classroom and more than once when the cage was covered I could here them having sex while the students were taking a test.
UNI TRUMPET STUDIO MEMORIES: I met Sue in the UNI trumpet choir. At the end of a long day we used to meet in Russell Hall, play pedal tones, and then go on walks around campus. |
