STRANGEST LIFE EXPERIENCE: Getting married... GREATEST PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Anytime that I can make a student believe that they can do something they never thought possible - and then have them achieve that something - is pretty cool! STRANGEST PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: I was referred to as a "middle-aged man" by one of my students... at the age of 23. UNI TRUMPET STUDIO MEMORIES: Noah Alvarado and I decided it would be a good idea to drive a 16 hour round trip to spend 2 hours in Indiana listening to Chris Van Leeuwen's master's recital (the recital was well worth it! CVL rocked and the IU trumpet ensemble was great, too!). We decided it would be a good idea to bring our mouthpieces along to practice while we drove. We did nearly 4 hours of buzzing. This included - but was not limited to - buzzing along to a solo CD of Phil Smith, a Jazz I CD, four renditions of the 20 minute G, one rendition of the newly -invented Alvaheinz 20 minute C, and of course we buzzed the entire warm-up section of the Trumpet Doctor. During one of 20 minute Gs, Noah decided it would be a good idea to take a picture of us buzzing as proof that we actually did it. Of course he couldn't stop buzzing to take the picture (then we would have had to start over...); so we were barreling down the Interstate, Noah with his mouthpiece in one hand, his cell phone in the other, nothing on the wheel of the car, taking a picture of me buzzing... it seemed like a good idea at the time. |
