Kelli Swehla

HOMETOWN: Cedar Rapids, IA

UNI DEGREE:  Bachelor of Music in Education, May 2005

EMAIL:

CURRENT RESIDENCE: Hiawatha, IA

OCCUPATION: Band Director at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids

GREATEST LIFE EXPERIENCE: Volunteering in Parkersburg to help people clean up after the tornado and surviving my own health battles.  And anytime I'm sitting in Wrigley Field, life is pretty great!

STRANGEST LIFE EXPERIENCE: Being called Ms. Swehla everyday

GREATEST PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Guiding the North-Linn high school concert band to their first-ever in school history, Division I rating performance this spring at Large Group Contest.  There were only 15 members in the band!

STRANGEST PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: During a middle school concert, a 6th grade percussionist fainted.  Not only did he hit the floor, he took a snare drum and a music stand with him.  And yes, we were in the middle of a tune.  It was the first concert I ever directed at the school

UNI TRUMPET STUDIO MEMORIES: I remember lots of great times had by all.  Lots of crazy joking and laughter.  I always enjoyed the instances when we played trumpet choir music together.  Those were always interesting moments!
