Trumpet Instruction

Students enrolled for trumpet instruction study privately with a full-time teacher each week. No part-time or graduate student instructors are presently employed for this purpose, assuring each student that his/her instructor will be a teacher with extensive performance and teaching credentials. Trumpet Class and Brass Seminar meet each week, and guest artists are often presented in recitals and clinics.

The Trumpet Studio at UNI is a good place to be. In recent years, we have had students from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas in addition to many talented students from all over Iowa.

The opportunity for students to associate directly with world-class artists is considered a vital experience for the emerging performer. A selected list of guests who have appeared at UNI includes:

Phil Smith (New York Philharmonic); John Hagstrom (Chicago Symphony Orchestra); David Hickman (Arizona State University); Charles Schleuter (Boston Symphony Orchestra); Adolph Herseth (Chicago Symphony Orchestra); Vincent Cichowicz (Northwestern University); Allan Dean and Robert Nagel (Yale University); Barbara Butler and Charles Geyer (Northwestern University); Keith Johnson (University of North Texas); Rex Richardson (Rhythm & Brass); Carl "Doc" Severinson (Tonight Show); Bobby Shew (Jazz artist); David Monette (Trumpet Designer); Marvin Stamm (Jazz artist); Ed Cord (Indiana University); Allen Vizzutti (soloist); Gordon Mathie (State University of New York at Potsdam); Susan Rider (U.S. Marine Band, The President's Own), Bruce Barrie (Chestnut Brass Company) and Charles Gorham (Indiana University).
