Use the following as a guide
when going through the process
of preparing for a recital.
4-6 months: Discuss and narrow down performance literature with teacher
Once performance literature is decided, secure a pianist (and other instrumentalists if needed) Purchase literature and begin practicing
Fall - Nov 15th - for Spring recital
Spring - April 7th - for Fall recital
Schedule the recital - confer with teacher, collaborator(s), and relatives
8 weeks: Research for program notes - composer & composition dates, premiere information, interesting tidbits on composers & pieces
Fall- Sept 15th
Spring - Jan 15th
Schedule dress rehearsal times
6 weeks: Initial rehearsal with collaborator(s)
4 weeks: Write program notes - type up program
3 weeks: Program notes & program due to teacher
Begin regular rehearsals with collaborators
Decide on Recital attire & Reception food (if you're having a reception)
2 weeks: Purchase CD's for recording recital
Purchase appropriate gifts for collaborators
1 week: Have programs/notes printed
Clean Instrument(s)/oil valves/grease slides
2 days - 1 week: Dress rehearsal
For the Recital

• CD's
• Check ($$) for pianist; gifts for collaborators
• Programs/notes
